Success can mean different Hines to different people. It could be a day of no arguments or a week of 30-minutes a day of exercise. Whatever you find success in, it varies from little to HUGE! How do YOU describe success?
Recently, I stumbled across an article on Success magazine. It describes 9 ways to achieve your goals quickly. The first step is to create yourself goals that are Specific, Realistic, Achieveable, Measurable, and Time-driven; or a S.M.A.R.T. goal. These goals make it so much easier to determine if you are reaching it, or if you’re heading in the right direction.
It’s interesting how some people think success is easy to achieve like it’s a straight shot arrow. In reality, many of us take detours, edit our goals (even S.M.A.R.T. goals) as they change and evolve. If you’re anything like me, success really is like the right side of the picture. I go off on tangents, or bunny trail thoughts, “Squirrel!” moments like Doug on the Disney movie Up! It is extremely important to get back on track as quickly as you can.
Don’t forget that success can mean getting your kiddo to school on time or remembering to pick them up! It could mean getting your daily exercise or drinking your water for the day. Success could mean getting spending less than you budgeted for groceries or maybe completing the crossword in today’s newspaper. Focus more time on the little successes! Every little goal accomplished deserves a celebration!
At church today, out pastor reviewed the story of Jacob and his father-in-law, Laban, in Genesis. What stood out to me about that God went before Jacob in everything he did. Even though Jacob was deceived by Laban, God still made Jacob’s herds strengthen and multiply. If you’re a believer, I highly encourage allowing Him to be your guide. Our pastor went on to share a couple scriptures I love from the New Testament as well: 1 Peter 2:15-25 and Colossians 3:22-25. Both scriptures share about how we are to do everything to please God, not our bosses or supervisors.
As success is the end result of where we hope to achieve, may each of us take each step of the way with wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. And don’t forget to be appreciative as you reach each step along the way. Create an atmosphere of gratitude and allow God to go before you on your journey!
